Atlanta supply chain optimization company Manhattan Associates Inc. announced Eddie Capel will be its new chief executive officer, succeeding Pete Sinisgalli on Jan. 1, 2013.

Capel joined Manhattan Associates in 2000 and has been chief operating officer since January 2011. He was promoted to president and chief operating officer effective Tuesday, and will work with Sinisgalli for the rest of the year to transition responsibilities.

The company announced the CEO appointment as it reported a profit of nearly $14.2 million in the second quarter, or 70 cents per diluted share, up from $12.3 million, or 57 cents a share, a year earlier.
