A look at Microsoft's new CEO, Satya Nadella

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Mangalore University; master's degree in computer science from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; master's degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. He earned his master's degree while working full time at Microsoft. He flew to Chicago from Seattle to attend classes on the weekend, according to Steven Kaplan, a professor at the school who taught Nadella in a course on entrepreneurial finance and private equity.
CAREER: Member of technology staff at Sun Microsystems. Joined Microsoft in 1992 to help build Windows NT while finishing MBA on weekends. In 2001, became responsible for Microsoft Business Solutions' research and development, promoted to leader of MBS in 2006. In 2008, named senior vice president of search, portals and advertising. In 2011, named president of Microsoft's server and tools business.
RECENT ROLE: For the past seven months, Nadella was the executive vice president who led Microsoft's cloud computing offerings. Nadella's new cloud enterprise group has also been growing strongly, more than doubling customers in the latest quarter, although it remains a small part of Microsoft's current business.
