Compiled by John Brieske. Do you work with someone who’s an exceptional leader in the health care field? If so, please send an email to jbrieske@ajc.com.

Current job: Executive director, Camellia Home Health, Marietta

Family: Married, three children, one "adorable" granddaughter

What makes a good leader? "Someone who is willing to do anything she asks of her staff. I have had years of experience in home health, as a staff nurse, as a marketer and as a nursing supervisor, and those experiences enable me to understand what my staff goes through on a daily basis. I believe that explaining to my staff what I expect from them is necessary, then holding them accountable enables them to perform to the best of their abilities. Encouragement of staff results in loyalty and optimal performance, and I have learned that when staff members sense appreciation, patient care improves."

What are you most proud of in your career? "Maintaining integrity. In order for my staff to follow my lead, I believe they must be able to trust me, therefore I must keep my word to them to the best of my ability and apologize when I realize I have made a mistake."

Who has inspired or mentored you? "My husband — he has always thought much more highly of me than he should, and his expectations have inspired and motivated me."

Favorite thing to do away from work: "I love to cook, and walking is an exercise that helps relieve the stresses from my mind and body."

Favorite guilty pleasure: "Watching NCIS with my husband and having milk and Oreos for a bedtime snack!"

Something that nobody at work knows about you: "Every morning when I get up, I spend time with God to gain perspective for the day."
