A job fair at the Galleria was expected to draw close to 1,000 job seekers, according to DeiversityHiringExpos president Jim Carter. The event almost didn't happen, however. Carter was ready to cancel or reschedule the event when he had problems lining up companies for the fair, but had some last minute additions.

Job seekers stream into the job fair when the doors open. "Jobs are scarce and budgets are tight," said organizer Jim Carter.

Robert Wilson, from Stone Mountain, waits in line for the job fair to open. He has been out of work for six months. He had been working as an installer for DirectTV.

Mimi Chaveonsilp traveled from Chattanooga for the job fair. She has been out of work for 4 months and last worked as an apartment manager.

Job seekers cast a long shadow in the morning light as several hundred were in line before the opening of the job fair. Organizers said the fair almost didn't happen until some companies signed up at the last minute.
