JCPenney is hiring.

The company said back-to-school shopping is expected to mean a need for more workers, so 250 employees will be added through the Atlanta area to accommodate the shopping rush.

In a written announcement, JCPenney said it wants "energetic local associates … for a variety of customer service and support positions."

Among the jobs to be filled are cashier, commission sales, merchandise support "and more," the announcement said. For instance, on the company web site, there is a listing for a sales associate at the Northlake store.

To apply, the company suggested going to an "applicant kiosk" in a store or going online at JCPcareers.com.

The company has more than 1,000 stores, including stores at Northlake in Atlanta, Mall of Georgia in Buford, Northpoint in Alpharetta, Arbor Place in Douglasville, Gwinnett Place in Duluth, The Mall at Stonecrest in Lithonia and Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw.

“Pay for all positions is competitive by experience level and specific job type,” said Joey Thomas, a JC Penney spokesman.

He did not say how long the jobs might last.
