Atlanta-based Invesco, a global money management firm, said Ben Johnson III has been elected chairman of its board of directors.

Johnson, former board of trustees chairman at Emory University, will succeed Rex Adams, who is retiring after serving as an Invesco board member since 2001 and as chairman since 2006.

Johnson, 70, has been an Invesco director since 2009. He will become board chairman after Invesco’s annual meeting in May.

Before stepping down last year, Johnson had served as Emory board chairman since 2000 and as an Emory trustee since 1995. He remains an emeritus trustee.

Johnson is also a retired managing partner of the Atlanta law firm of Alston & Bird.
