The Melia Hotel in Midtown is being reflagged as a co-branded Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites, InterContinental Hotels Group said Friday.

British-based IHG, whose Americas headquarters is in Atlanta, will convert 360 rooms in the 501-room hotel into a Crowne Plaza while 102 rooms will be dedicated to the Staybridge Suites brand.

IHG said the co-branding is the first of several the company has in the works, including plans for properties in Austin, San Diego and Joliet, Ill. Co-branding creates operating efficiencies, the company said, with buildings typically sharing services such as fitness centers, pools and food and beverage operations.

“With a dual-branded property, our owners are able to cater to many different stay occasions in the same location while generating a more profitable bottom line,”said Joel Eisemann, chief development officer for IHG’s Americas operation.
