HoneyBaked Ham, which has more than 20 locations in metro Atlanta, said it will hire 10,000 addition seasonal employees for the holidays.
Kristen Lenze, a spokeswoman for the company, said HoneyBaked Ham’s 24 metro Atlanta stores will be hiring nearly 1,000 workers, around 40 additional employees per store.
Positions include hourly associates, seasonal gifting sales associates, shift store supervisors, store managers, call center representatives, food production associates, and packing and shipping associates.
HoneyBaked Ham joins a growing list of retailers seeking to expand heir work force in advance of a shopping season they expect to be strong. Outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. expects retailers to add more than 800,000 workers this holiday season, the most since the 1999 season.
Among the companies hiring thousands of additional seasonal workers:
* Macy's plans to hire about 86,000 seasonal workers, including 10,000 for its online fulfillment centers.
* GameStop plans to hire 25,000 through the middle of October.
* Toys 'R' Us plans to hire 45,000 temporary employees, including 1,000 in metro Atlanta.
* Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer, said it will hire 60,000 seasonal workers, which is a 10 percent increase compared to seasonal hiring last year.
* Kohl's plans to hire 67,o00 seasonal workers.
* Target says it will hire 70,000 seasonal workers.
John Challenger, chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., said job seekers should consider opportunities beyond retailers, including restaurants, caterers, movie theaters, and other entertainment and leisure venues that tend to increase hiring as the holidays approach.
Applicants can apply at HoneyBaked Ham online or in person at store locations.
