Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport had a 2.2 percent decline in passenger counts in 2009, roughly on par with expectations for a slower year amid weak economic conditions.

About 88 million passengers used the airport last year, down from about 90 million in 2008, according to the airport's traffic report for December and the year-end.

The airport also saw a 14 percent decline in cargo traffic in 2009, amid a worldwide slowdown in cargo demand earlier in the year.
