Grammy-nominated gospel singer Vickie Winans said she has dropped a lawsuit against a Sandy Springs company and promoter, whom she accused of breach of contract.
“The step I’m taking is one of compassion and grace, not that they are innocent, but because I might need this same gesture given to me one day,” Winans told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week. “I extend forgiveness and mercy, and the case has been dropped.”
In the suit filed recently in Fulton County Superior Court, Winans sought at least $75,000 in damages and other costs from Atlanta Gospel Fest Inc. and owners Riki Brooks.
Efforts to reach Brooks for comment were unsuccessful.
The Stellar Award winner claimed Brooks and her company refused to pay her for appearing at what she thought would be a benefit concert, at Cobb Galleria Center on Aug. 2, for the underprivileged . The agreement called for a $7,500 performance fee and travel-related expenses, according to the lawsuit.
Winans was appearing as part of the two-day annual Atlanta Gospel Fest Music and Healthcare Festival, Aug. 1 and 2.
