Gas prices continued their downward trend this week.

The average price for a gallon of unleaded regular in Georgia was $3.36 on Monday, down 4 cents from a week ago, according to AAA's Fuel Gauge Report. That's 8 cents higher than a month ago, however, when the average price was $3.28.

The average price in metro Atlanta was $3.37. Prices are considerably lower in the Augusta area, where a gallon of regular unleaded was going for $3.23 on Monday. The highest price was in Athens at $3.38.

The national average is $3.44.

The lowest price in the metro area was $3.18 at a Citgo station at Buford Dam Road and Little Mill Road in Buford. Several Costco and Sam's Club warehouses were selling for $3.22 a gallon. The highest price was $3.79 at several stations in Atlanta and one in Stockbridge.

Diesel prices were more stable, rising just a penny from last week to $3.83.
