Four planned developments in Georgia made Where to Retire magazine's top 50 list for master-planned communities in the July-August issue.

Soleil Laurel Canyon in Canton, Sun City Peachtree by Del Webb in Griffin, Riverwood Plantation near Augusta and The Georgia Club outside of Athens were cited for their recreational amenities, such as golf courses, walking trails and planned activities.

"We looked at communities for almost a year," said magazine spokeswoman Carlee Mausner, and the criteria included information from interviews with residents of each community.

"Some are in popular retirement locations, and some you look at and say, ‘I didn't know that,'" she said.

The magazine caters to the 55-plus crowd with articles about lifestyle and active living.
