Former New York Gov. David Paterson has joined Atlanta-based IFS Securities, the broker-dealer announced Wednesday.

Paterson, who served as New York’s governor from 2008 to 2010, is now chief strategist of U.S. affairs at IFS Securities, and he is chair of the IFS Advisory Board.

The company said he will introduce IFS Securities to public companies, municipalities, pension funds and other businesses and organizations. As the Advisory Board chair, he will lead a group that advises the company’s board of directors and senior management.

Paterson is a former state senator and Senate minority leader, former lieutenant governor and served as the state’s first African-American governor in 2008, when he succeeded Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who resigned.

Paterson is the current state Democratic Party chairman in New York.
