Radial, a former unit of eBay, said it is hiring 1,150 seasonal employees ahead of the Christmas shopping season in its customer service center in Brunswick.
The suburban Philadelphia firm operates call centers and distribution centers for Fortune 500 companies and other retailers such as Shoe Carnival and GameStop.
Last year, the company hired about 1,150 seasonal workers at its Brunswick operation as well as about 100 more at a smaller unit in Lawrenceville.
The company said this week that more than 1,000 of last year's hires later became year-round employees.
“We’re thrilled to be creating so many additional jobs in Brunswick, many of which may lead to full-time opportunities,” said Kelly Scally, staffing director at Radial. “Whether you’re looking to earn extra cash for the holidays or wanting to get your foot in the door at Radial, seasonal work is a great place to start.”
Closer to home, Sandy Springs-based UPS hired more than 95,000 seasonal employees last year to handle the mountains of packages it ships during the holiday season.
Radial got its start at eBay, which is best known as the online retail site where people can sell their baseball cards and other stuff.
But it split off from eBay in 2015. Private equity firm Sterling Partners bought the unit, eBay Enterprise, in 2015 and combined it with a similar Johns Creek-based company, Innotrac, that it had acquired in 2013 for about $107 million.
The company handles a wide range of customer service and shipping tasks for retailers, including taking orders, warehousing merchandise, shipping orders, handling complaints and monitoring social media to detect and help with customer problems.
The company does have at least one hallmark of its Silicon Valley roots: It has games in the lunchroom where workers can wind down.
