FedEx is adding 2,300 jobs in metro Atlanta to handle the surge of packages during the holiday season.

The company is already hiring so that they can staff up in November for the roughly three-month-long escalation in demand for help, according to Jonathan Lyons, a spokesman for the Memphis-based company.

The jobs here will be part of a holiday hiring wave that FedEx said will add 50,000 positions around the country, he said.

The jobs will be located “at various FedEx Ground facilities,” he said.

Nationally, some of the jobs will be full-time, some part-time. In Atlanta, most of the jobs will be part-time.

However, FedEx did say that it expects to hire permanent employees from the group that is hired just for the holidays.

FedEx declined to offer specifics on the pay for these positions.

“I can say compensation and benefits are competitive and dependent on location,” Lyons said.

The AJC has previously reported that Sandy Springs-based UPS has plans to hire about 95,000 seasonal employees.

About 35 percent of the seasonal workers were later hired for permanent jobs after the holidays, according to UPS.
