Federal job fair in Atlanta draws thousands.

More than 1,000 people turned out for a job fair at the Nunn Federal Building. The fair, sponsored by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (Atlanta District), was for jobs with federal agencies such as Justice, Labor, Commerce, Social Security, FBI, and Food and Drug, just to name a few.

The line snaked around the block and then back again on itself, requiring three lines in spots.

Thyjuan Antoine of Lithonia who was laid off three weeks ago from her administrative job. She read a book while waiting in line. She estimated it would take about three hours to drop off her resume.

Bertha Gibson (bottom left) of Kennesaw, a legal secretary who was laid off three weeks ago, waited in line.

About two dozen federal agencies offered information and fliers.

The job fair was publicized primarily at local colleges for soon-to-be graduates, but word spread quickly.

Reid Laurens of Alpharetta, who has been unemployed from a marketing job since Oct. 2008, used his briefcase as a sun shield while waiting in line.

"It's sad that all these people, many of them out of work, are in this line," said Russell Lohr, 37. "It's definitely a sign of bad times."

Virgil McIber of Atlanta, who has been unemployed for the past year-and-a-half, waits in line.

Jessie Belle (center) of College Park, has been unemployed for a year.

George Rice III, 28, of Atlanta, said he has been unemployed for three months.
