Graduation time is an emotional period for college seniors. While many are looking forward to walking across the stage with their diploma in hand, some are concerned about landing the job of their dreams.

If you fall into the latter category, stop worrying. Instead, sit through this one last lecture from Dan Jourdan, owner of Remedy Staffing Atlanta, on how to score your first gig. Take notes!

1. Be direct

Jourdan said one of the best ways to increase your chances of getting a job in a specific field is to be bold. "Call companies directly, walk in, better yet, bring them a customer," he said.

2. Get an internship

For current college students and recent graduates, internships (even free ones) can be a great way to gain work experience. "This is the only time in your life that you can work for free and get a free education. It is a great way to get in the door," Jourdan said.

3. Always network

Networking is always a great way to obtain the position you want. Jourdan said that it's never too early to begin, so "start networking as soon as possible, even grade school!"

4. Don't rely on your diploma

Jourdan noted that you can't lean just on your degree. "People want go-getters," he said.
