If you hope to work in the TV or film industries, metro Atlanta can be a good training ground through internships.

Online searches will bring you lots of hits, but here are four companies that could be good starting points because of recent job postings.

1. Laconic Productions: The Atlanta office of this New York-based production company specializes in film production, commercials, music videos, and more.

2. Shay Bennett Studios: Touting itself as Atlanta's premier content studio, the company provides script writing and consulting services, plus work on full-length feature films.

3. Think Dream Live Foundation: This nonprofit organization uses media and events to educate youth in communities about current social issues.

4. Turner/Turner Broadcasting: With familiar stations such as TNT, CNN and Cartoon Network under its corporate umbrella, Turner offers multiple internships related to TV.

Before applying for the position, know what type of work you'll be doing. Internship duties can range from basic office tasks (sending emails or answering phones) to creative work (maintaining social media accounts or helping with design or creative production) and physical labor (helping set up or break down sets and running errands).

Also know that while you'll earn a paycheck with some internships, many "pay" you with experience or school credit. You can still win in the long run, though, because internships can often lead to a full-time job offer after graduation, or burnish your resume through real-world experience gained outside of the classroom.
