Freelance. The word doesn't wreak of crazy. But dancing on a busy sidewalk wearing a Statue of Liberty outfit in blue face conjures a unique talent. And it's not the only gig like that out there. Here are the most surprising freelancers that Atlanta companies are seeking.

Model or showroom sales
Only a handful of cities across the nation have similar opportunities to what's available at AmericasMart Atlanta. In August and September alone, the retailer is rolling out a show of prom attire, followed by a major bridal show. Plus, if you're working on site, you can pick up some of the most amazing bargains.
Children's party performer
From face-painting to balloon-twisting to caricatures and princess parties, entertainers are in high demand. A children's party performer can make up to $50 an hour and beyond. GigSalad, an online service that helps event planners book entertainment, allows you to post your specialty if you're in search of work. It also allows the people who have booked you to rate your performance and post a review. Don't stop there though. Contact an event planning company such as O'Brien Productions, located in Kennesaw, for openings. Many of these businesses are in need of croupiers, dancers, entertainers and card dealers.
Canvasser
It's an election year, so lots of political types will pay for your footwork. Additionally, Georgia Public Broadcast is looking for door-to-door canvassers to help with a fundraising campaign. The work day is eight hours, and you choose the days you want to work. Take note, though, three days a week is the minimum time required. There's a mileage reimbursement, too, if you use your car.
Belly dancer
Many of the same places that teach belly dancing, including Atlanta Belly Dance, book events. Dancers need to be available for parties and the occasional bellygram gig. Note to self: there's an upcharge for fire breathing.
Sign twirler
A few years ago, sign twirling was a one-man show. These days, sign-twirlers have plenty of representation. For example, Arrow Sign Spinners is headquartered in California, but has contracts all over the country, including in Atlanta. Fireleads Media is another national sign spinning company, with talent in Georgia. SpinnerDudes serves as a virtual billboard, allowing spinners to post their availability and rates. However, if this is your gift, reach out directly to accountants, pizza joints, yogurt places and businesses that are either closing or pushing a special sale. You can also check out "Signs of the Times" magazine, a monthly publication dedicated to your twirling and spinning art form.
