MUST Ministries and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are hosting free construction training and a flagger certification class for job seekers in June.

Deadline for applications is May 25.

The class will take place at 1407 Cobb Parkway N., Marietta, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., June 1-3.

This 10-hour free construction training will cover the recognition, avoidance, abatement and prevention of safety and health hazards in the construction workplace.

Participants will learn about their rights as workers, the safe and correct use of hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, cranes and personal protective equipment.

They also will be instructed in the proper procedures for materials handling, storage and disposal.

The course also includes a Nation Safety Council flagger certification.

"Employers always seek the most qualified candidate," said Beth Ray, director of Program Services for MUST. "They report that, if two candidates are equal, they will always select the candidate with the certificate to reduce training costs and increase worker safety."

Interested participants may pick up an application at any MUST location and also will need to complete MUST's Back-to-Work workshop to establish base-line employment skills.

Additionally, applicants will need to complete an interest inventory and provide a copy of their resume, photo ID and social security number.
