The average American spends about a third of their life working, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

It's no surprise, then, that job satisfaction can have a significant impact on our general outlook on life.

WalletHub analyzed the 50 states and the District of Columbia across a range of metrics in three categories: work environment; emotional and physical well-being; and community, environment and recreational activities.

Overall, Georgia ranks relatively low at No. 37. In emotional and physical well-being, the state ranks No. 32.  In community, environment and recreational activities, the state ranks No. 32 and 30, respectively.

Relative to work environment (based on commute time, income level, number of work hours, long-term unemployment rate, job security and income-growth rate) Georgia comes in dead last at No. 51.
