More than 1,000 drones have been registered in Georgia, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The FAA started requiring registration of drones in December 2015, and this week released a list of registrations by state, city and zip code entered by each registrant. The list does not include names or addresses.

More than 900 recreational drone users have registered in Georgia. There are also nearly 150 non-recreational drone user registrations, including commercial operators and others, such as law enforcement.

The FAA says anyone who owns a drone that weighs more than 0.55 lbs must register before flying the drone outdoors, including those flying for hobby or recreation.

To be sure, it’s likely many drone owners have not registered. The FAA says it hopes the registration requirement will “install the sense of added responsibility,” and also plans to send educational information to registrants’ e-mail addresses.

The agency, which charges $5 for registration, says it “may assess civil penalties of up to $27,500” for failure to register and says operators should have proof or registration while using their drones.
