Developers are planning a 26-story apartment tower in Buckhead not far from Lenox Square as Atlanta’s apartment surge shows little sign of slowing.

Novare Group, Batson-Cook Development Co. and longtime Atlanta developer Ackerman & Co. plan to build the third SkyHouse tower in Atlanta on a site along Stratford Road near the Maggiano’s Little Italy on Peachtree Road.

Thousands of apartment units are currently under some stage of planning or development in Atlanta. The new SkyHouse proposal includes 364 luxury units. Zoning approvals are still pending.

The site has been controlled for years by real estate titan Charlie Ackerman and was once slated for a luxury hotel before the recession.

“Buckhead fits very well with the places that we want to build our SkyHouse communities,” Novare President Jim Borders said in a news release. “The test is what kind of experience will our residents have, and this area of Buckhead scores off the charts on that measure.”

The latest planned SkyHouse project follows two similar towers in Midtown and others under way in Austin, Texas, Dallas, Houston and Orlando, Fla.
