Delta trims overseas routes, including Cape Town flights

As Delta Air Lines cuts its international flight schedule by 15 percent, it is discontinuing its Atlanta-to-Cape Town, South Africa, route started just this month and down-scaling other international routes to seasonal service.

The cuts come along with Delta's previously announced plans to discontinue Atlanta-Shanghai nonstop flights effective Sept. 1 and Atlanta-Seoul nonstop flights effective Aug. 30.

Delta started the Atlanta-Cape Town route via Dakar, Senegal, on June 1. But the airline said it plans to discontinue service to Cape Town effective Sept. 1. The route was part a broader expansion of Delta service to Africa.

Delta will also move its Mumbai, India, service away from Atlanta and move it to New York effective Oct. 26. In addition, it plans to downscale its Atlanta-Moscow, Atlanta-Stockholm and Atlanta-Prague routes to seasonal service. It will halt Atlanta-Stockholm flights from Aug. 24 to March 27, Atlanta-Prague from Sept. 27 to March 27 and Atlanta-Moscow from Sept. 29 to March 26.
