Delta Air Lines is giving its employees $1.1 billion in profit-sharing bonuses, a record payout.

The profit-sharing amounts to more than 16 percent of Delta employees’ pay, the company said.

Atlanta-based Delta paid out part of the total last October and will dole out the remainder this Friday.

The airline traditionally makes the profit-sharing payment to its nearly 80,000 employees on Valentine’s Day with parties at its headquarters near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and other locations. Valentine’s Day falls on Saturday this year.

Delta reported net income of $659 million for 2014, and said its pre-tax income for the year was $4.5 billion excluding special items.
