A Delta Air Lines pilot is getting rave reviews on Facebook for a photo he took of One World Trade Center, Lower Manhattan’s newest high rise.

The photo, taken by Delta Captain Jerry Walsh during a flight over New York City, shows the top of the skyscraper’s mast peeking above the clouds. It was posted on Facebook recently by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The photo appears to have been taken around May 31. On Twitter on that date, “@capnjerry” tweeted the view was “a look from my flight” over the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, which connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn.

Walsh then tweeted, “@Ginger_Zee A shot of the Freedom Tower from 4000 feet. Cloud tops at 1600 feet or so. Tower 1776 feet. #nyc #Delta

One World Trade Center’s mast was erected last month, making the tower that sits on the former site of the World Trade Center’s two towers the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere at 1,776 feet. The “twin towers” were destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack.

The Facebook photo has generated more than 4,400 “likes” and nearly 1,600 “shares” as of Friday. “Arguably one of the coolest pictures ive ever seen,” posted Steven Lepore.

Construction on the $3.95 billion tower is expected to be completed in early 2014.
