A Delta flight was evacuated and a passenger taken into custody Tuesday in Jacksonville after the passenger threatened to hijack the plane.

Delta spokeswoman Susan Elliott said Flight 2380, set to depart from Florida to Atlanta, was halted after a passenger handed a suspicious note to a member of the flight crew.

Passengers told Channel 2 Action News that the passenger, a woman, was nervous and clutching a Bible as she handed a flight attendant a note marked "urgent."

The letter stated that the woman was planning to hijack the plane, and the crew could find her in seat 19-A, Channel 2 reported.

"The pilot came out escorting a woman out of the plane,” one passenger said. “Apparently she made a threat to the plane and wanted to die."

The passenger, who has not been identified, has been taken into custody, said Elliott.

The flight was delayed for two hours but was scheduled to land at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport close to noon.

"Delta did phenomenal," a passenger said. "The flight attendants did great; and everything was just every calm."

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
