Delta Air Lines is discontinuing its discount on checked baggage fees when paid online for domestic flights.

The Atlanta-based airline charges $25 for a first checked bag and $35 for a second checked bag on domestic flights. It is discontinuing its $2 or $3 discount for paying the fee online rather than at the airport. The fees will remain $25 for bag 1 and $35 for bag 2.

Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said the change was a "competitive response" because other U.S. airlines are no longer offering the online discount.

Delta also now allows only one free checked bag for flights to Mexico, Central America or the Caribbean, rather than allowing two free checked bags for flights to Central America and some destinations in the Caribbean. Fees for a second checked bag to Europe also increased.

The new fees take effect for tickets purchased Wednesday or later.
