Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Richard Anderson got a 14 percent pay raise in 2013, to almost $14.4 million, on the back of soaring stock returns and record profits.

Delta’s stock price has more than tripled since the beginning of 2013, closing Wednesday at $36.83.

Most of the jump in Anderson’s pay came in the form of bigger stock and option awards totaling more than $10.9 million. His other pay included a $725,000 salary, a $2.4 million bonus and $293,850 in perks, mostly for contributions related to his retirement savings plan.

His total compensation was $12.6 million in 2012.

Delta President Ed Bastian’s pay rose 24 percent in 2013, to $8.8 million, including $6.3 million in stock and option awards.

Delta executives’ pay got a strong tailwind after they were able to beat most of their targets for financial and operating performance at the airline.

Delta reported a record $2.7 billion profit last year, and net income was up in the first quarter as well, despite winter weather disruptions across much of its network. The airline reported a $213 million profit in the first three months of 2014, up from $7 million in the year-earlier quarter.

Delta’s annual operating revenue rose 3 percent in 2013, to $37.8 billion.
