A plan for Halperns' Purveyors of Steak and Seafood to buy Larry Kline Wholesale Meats & Provisions fell through when both parties withdrew from the deal, the AJC has learned. The signing of a letter of intent for Atlanta-area Halperns' to acquire the Florida-based company was announced in July. A reason for the break was not given, and a representative of Halperns' said the company's chairman was not available to comment.

The new company was to operate under the Halperns' name, with the pairing strengthening both companies' positions in the South Florida and Caribbean markets. At the time, Halperns' said it had been looking for the right partner to expand its operations there. Halperns' has been cited by National Provisioner Magazine and Inc. magazine as one of the country's fastest-growing private companies.
