A Congressional subcommittee will hold a hearing on Tuesday in Newnan to examine the practices of federal bank regulators and investigate the causes of bank failures in Georgia and other states.
Two panels of witnesses, one of bank regulators and a second of bankers and area business leaders, will appear before the House Financial Services Committee’s Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. The hearing will be held at the Coweta County Performing Arts Center starting at 9 a.m., and it is open to the public.
Georgia leads all states with 67 bank failures since mid-2008.
Subcommittee members U.S. Reps Lynn Westmoreland, R-Coweta County, and David Scott, D-Atlanta, are among the lawmakers expected to attend.
