Comcast on Friday announced a deal to make Netflix’s popular streaming video service available across the cable giant’s X1 platform.

The integrated service, which will go live on millions of X1 devices next week, will allow Comcast X1 users who are also Netflix subscribers to toggle to Netflix shows and movies without grabbing another remote. It’ll also let X1 users launch Netflix’s roster of programming using the platform’s voice-activated remotes, the company’s said in a news release Friday.

The companies said Netflix original programming such as “Orange is the New Black,” and movies by other studios and past seasons of other networks shows, such as “The Walking Dead,” will be available along side Comcast’s roster of on-demand movies and programs.

“This partnership will enable our X1 customers to easily browse and access the content they love in one place – including the entire Netflix catalog along with live, on demand, DVR and web video from hundreds of networks, studios and digital brands,” Comcast spokesman Alex Horwitz said in an e-mail. “The consumption of video has drastically grown and evolved, transitioning from one primary device in one room, to an anytime, anywhere, multi-screen world.”

Current X1 and Netflix users will receive a prompt to sign-in to access their Netflix accounts and new users can sign up for a Netflix subscription through the X1 box.

Netflix currently has a similar arrangement with Google Fiber, but Comcast, which is the largest cable provider, has a larger footprint and customer base. Comcast said about half its customers will have X1 service by year-end.

“The Netflix integration into the X1 platform means our mutual customers will no longer need to change inputs or juggle remotes,” Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO said in a news release. “Now they can seamlessly move between the Netflix app and their cable service, enjoying all the TV shows and movies they love without hassle.”
