Comcast will bring its 1-gigabit high speed service to residential and business properties in Forsyth County’s new mixed-use development Halcyon, the company said Tuesday.
The cable giant has struck a 10-year deal to be the high-speed provider of choice for the $370-million project, which will include housing, business, hotels and a movie theater near the intersection of Exit 12 off Ga. 400 and McFarland Parkway. The agreement will create one of Forsyth County’s first “gigabit communities.”
The announcement is the latest in a number of moves by Internet providers to set exclusive ultra high-speed deals with large developments.
In March, AT&T’s said it struck a deal with Novare Group to bring its 1-gigabit high speed GigaPower fiber network to the developer’s community of SkyHouse apartments. As many as 1,800 residents of SkyHouse apartments in six cities — including at least 1,000 in metro Atlanta — will be offered the high-speed network in the deal.
Comcast in May said it would offer 10-gigabit business services to companies at Ponce City Market, a mixed-use development that is home to a Google Fiber office.
Patrick Leonard, principal of RocaPoint Partners, the developer of Forsyth’s Halcyon, said being a gigabit-community will make the project “the ultimate one-stop-shop for residents, businesses and visitors.
