Combi USA is recalling a model of its child car seat because of risk of chest injuries.

The recall involves more than 39,000 Coccoro Convertible Child Restraints, model number 82220. The seats in the recall have a manufacturing date span from Jan. 1, 2009, to June 29, 2016.

When the seats are installed in a forward-facing position and only secured with a lap belt, too much force could be transmitted to the child's chest during a crash, according to government tests. Combi said the recall does not affect the use of the seat when installed in a rear-facing position.

The child seats fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 213, "Child Restraint Systems."

There have been no reported injuries, according to The Associated Press.

Combi will provide consumers with a cover to add to the seat bottom, free of charge. The part is expected to ship in mid-August.
