Evolution of the Coca-Cola bottle.

Coca-Cola was sold in bottles for the first time on March 12, 1894. Since then, the bottle has undergone several updates, including the signature contour of today.

In the 1990s, Coca-Cola introduced an 8-ounce contoured glass bottle - a replca of one first used in 1915.

In 1994, Coca-Cola makes the transition from glass to plastic bottles. In 2007, Coca-Cola unveiled its first redesign of the bottle since introduced. The new design featured a sculpted handgrip at the bottom, a new easy-open cap and a design that uses 5 percent less plastic.

Coca-Colan widens its contour shape to larger sizes, including its two-liter bottle.

In 2009, Coca-Cola unveiled a new plastic bottle made partially from plants. The technology behind the "PlantBottle" has been broadened to other Coke products and developed to sell in other products.
