CNN/U.S. is cutting media editing jobs in Atlanta as well as photographers, editors and staffers elsewhere as the cable network makes changes to its "Image + Sound" and library divisions, the company said Friday.

About 50 jobs will be eliminated. The company did not confirm how many of those were in Atlanta. Other layoffs took place in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Washington, D.C.

"For the past three years, we have been analyzing our work process across Image + Sound, both in the field and in our editing and production areas," CNN senior vice president Jack Womack wrote in a letter to staffers. "As a result of these technology and workflow changes, CNN is reducing the number of media editors in our work force in Atlanta."

The CNN Library, which houses the network's archives, will be centralized in Atlanta. New jobs will be added there, the company said.
