Cathleen P. Black, new head of New York City schools, to resign from Coca-Cola board

Nov 15, 2010Cathleen P. Black, who was recently named Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, will resign from Coca-Cola Co.'s board of directors at the end of the year. As a result of her new appointment, Black will also leave the board of IBM.
Black worked as a Coca-Cola director from April 1990 to May 1991, and was again elected as a director in 1993.
"It is with much regret that I make this decision, which I believe is appropriate as I take on my new role," Black said in a statement.
Muhtar Kent, chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola, said Black "has always been a thoughtful and wise voice on our board and we will miss her counsel and perspectives."
