Atlanta-based Birch Communications is acquiring two subsidiaries from Orlando-based Cordia Communications Corp.

Birch said the subsidiaries are My Tel Co. Inc. and Northstar Telecom Inc., which service about 55,000 business, residential and broadband access lines across 24 states.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Birch provides local and long distance voice, broadband Internet access and other telecom services to small and medium-sized businesses in 38 states.

The company's president and chief executive officer, Vincent M. Oddo, said the company will add 50 jobs.

"This is our 12th strategic acquisition during the past five years and each one has significantly increased customer density in our 38 state service footprint,” said Oddo said in a release.

The transaction is expected to close in the early fourth quarter of 2011.
