Atlanta Medical Center is continuing to expand its presence beyond downtown and into surrounding communities with a new primary care center in Forest Park.

It marks the third such primary care center for the hospital with a fourth set to open in southwest Atlanta’s Cascade neighborhood later this year. It has two existing facilities in Morrow and Inman Park and plans to roll out more primary care offices in 2013.

Developing primary care centers helps create a flow of patients to Atlanta Medical Center specialists, said Todd Goodall, chief business development officer.

“The more we can tap into them, that enables us to impact patient care in the greater community,” Goodall said.

The move comes as health systems increasingly focus on improving communication and coordination among primary care doctors, specialists and other providers in an effort to better focus on patients’ overall health. It’s also part of an effort to boost awareness of the downtown hospital in a competitive metro Atlanta market.

The new office, AMC Primary Care Physicians at Forest Park is located at an existing OBGYN practice, 871 Forest Parkway. It will begin with patient hours each Thursday, expanding to full time by the summer.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
