Atlanta airport preparing for upgrades, renovations

The ATLNext airport master plan which includes upgrades, new construction and modernization of certain areas at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport calls for a hotel, mixed use commercial complex and travel plaza area that would cost an estimated $500 million. Construction would start in 2016 and finish late 2018.

This rendering for the hotel next to the domestic terminal features a modern design. The design is still under review and could change.

Hartsfield-Jackson plans to cover the curbside areas at the domestic terminal.

The canopy over the curbside areas will create a new look to the airport for passengers approaching the terminal.

Hartsfield-Jackson plans to update the exterior of its domestic terminal.

The North terminal check-in area will be designed to have a more open feel to it.

Renovations would include changes to the existing baggage claim area. As with the concourse gate areas, baggage claim would be modernized to feature more windows for better light.
