The Atlanta-based American Cancer Society said it has received a $6.4 million gift from the drug store chain Walgreens to provide cancer screenings to under-served communities.

Walgreens raised the funds from customer donations during checkout. It is part of the retailer’s Walgreens Way to Well Commitment program.

The American Cancer Society will use the gift to establish partnerships with community groups to increase breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening rates, the group said. The society said Walgreens has helped raise $23 million over the years.
