Sunday circulation of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution rose 6.7 percent for the six-month period that ended Sept. 30. The Sunday gain was the best for the newspaper since 2003 and comes at a time when the newspaper industry as a whole remains troubled by circulation declines.

The AJC had the 13th largest Sunday circulation among U.S. newspapers, at 410,022, up 25,912 from the April-September 2010 period, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

Amy Glennon, vice president audience, said, “We’re very pleased to be growing again on Sunday. We’ve focused on deep local watchdog reporting and readers are responding. There is strong advertising content on Sunday as well, and readers are hungry for those savings. We’re committed to listening to readers and responding with the kind of newspaper and digital products that serve them best.”

Daily circulation at the AJC was down 4.5 percent.  Most U.S. newspapers reported declines in daily circulation.

“We are closing the year-over-year volume gap," Glennon said, "but still have work to do.”
