Airport terminal project to add construction jobs

April 2, 2010

The Atlanta airport's international terminal construction project will require roughly another 1,000 workers in the next year, nearly doubling the number of trade workers on site to about 2,100.

About 1,150 now work on international terminal construction at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, said  airport assistant general manager Dan Molloy, who is overseeing the project.

That will increase to about 1,600 workers by the third quarter of this year, and then to about 2,100 by early next year depending on work flow, he said. After that, the numbers of workers will ramp down until the international terminal is completed around April 2012.

Molloy said Hartsfield-Jackson is currently spending about $30 million a month on international terminal construction.

"Just daily, you can see the changes," he said. "It's a fantastic process."

He said subcontractors will do most of the hiring. The project Web site for the international terminal is www.hmmhteam.com.

Workers to be added in the next year include steelworkers, drywallers, tile setters, plumbers, electricians, roofers and painters, according to the airport.
