An anti-bottled water group is pushing Atlanta-based Coca-Cola to put the source of its Dasani water on the labels. Boston-based Corporate Accountability International says Coca-Cola is the last major bottler of water to not disclose the municipal source, lagging behind major competitors such as PepsiCo.
Now, Corporate Accountability says it is "making Coke’s job easy" by launching a new online campaign, "Open Tappiness" -- a reference to Coca-Cola's global marketing hook of "Open Happiness" -- that will allow consumers to pitch the corporation on slogans for a new Dasani label. In response, Coca-Cola noted the Dasani label states that the water is "purified," and the Dasani website says it comes from local water supplies. The municipal water is then filtered through reverse osmosis and enhanced with a blend of minerals.
