A Massachusetts company is recalling more than 22,000 pounds of chicken sausage after it was discovered the sausages failed to note the use of pork casings, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Services announced Friday.

Kayem Foods Inc. discovered its “Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage” had incorrect nutritional labels after consumers noted they mirrored those for “Al Fresco Apple Maple Breakfast Sausage,” according to the USDA.

The recalled items are:

  • 12-oz. vacuum-packed packages containing "Al Fresco Sweet Apple Chicken Sausage" produced on Nov. 4, 2015, and bearing identification code "308 BW12 USE/FRZ BY FEB 7, 2016." The products bear establishment number "EST. P-7839" inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The 22,182 pounds of sausages were distributed at multiple retailers nationwide, USDA officials said.

No illnesses were reported in relation to the recall.
