After several years and more than two million in cash and donations, Play Chastain - an innovative playground in Chastain Park -- is open for playing.

The project was spearheaded by Chastain Park Conservancy and addresses the safety and accessibility issues that plagued the old playground in Chastain Park which was founded in the 1930s.

Spread across 40,000 square feet, the new play area features a dual slide, inclusive swings, age appropriate play spaces and more challenging equipment for older children.

Other park highlights include a wheelchair-accessible tree house, a climbing wall, and outdoor piano and music station, reports Curbed Atlanta .

Play Chastain is only one part of the plan to revamp certain areas of the 268 acre park. Walk Chastain, a $2.4 million project, will extended and renovate the walking trail. Work on the trail is currently underway.
