After several years of rumblings, it looks like "Atlanta" -- the FX series filmed in and starring this great city -- is finally coming to fruition.

The show, which the AJC's Rodney Ho first revealed back in 2014 , stars comedian, actor, writer Donald Glover (aka rapper, Childish Gambino).

This month, fans were finally able to peep the promo trailer which is thus far getting a positive reaction even though it doesn't reveal much except a really great song " New Person, Same Old Mistakes," by Tame Impala -- which immediately started getting views/comments on You Tube from "Atlanta" trailer watchers.

Here's the "Atlanta" promo:

Glover, who is from Stone Mountain, plays “Earnest Earn” Marks, a loner who returns to Atlanta to work a crappy job and is barely getting by. Then his cousin,  Alfred (Bryan Tyree Henry) becomes a hot rapper in Atlanta and Earnest has the chance to be his manager and presumably, make it big.

According to Glover, executive producer and creator of the Atlanta filmed series, he was going for a "'Twin Peaks' with rappers" tone -- and who didn't love "Twin Peaks?"

Glover said at the Television Critics Association Tour earlier this year that the show writers don't have an office. They come to his house, he cooks food for everyone and they sit around, talk and cruise the Internet. FX ordered 10 episodes last year, so hopefully that unorthodox magic is working.

The half-hour show is scheduled to premiere in September and is being touted as one of the most anticipated shows of the season.
