Pres. Barack Obama will talk to CNN's Anderson Cooper Thursday, January 7, at 8 p.m. for an hour-long town hall about the very divisive subject of guns.

The event will take place at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. and will happen the day before the fifth anniversary of the shooting of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Arizona, in a rampage that left six dead and 13 others wounded.

As  Obama starts his final full year in office, he is hoping not to be in total lame duck mode. Gun control has been an issue he has frequently addressed over his time in office but has not been able to convince Congress to pass anything.

As a result, he is expected to soon announce a new executive action that could expand background checks on gun sales. More details here.
