I haven't posted anything about radio airplay in a couple of months but Pharrell Williams' "Happy" was supplanted a long time ago by John Legend's cross-format smash "All of Me."
The pretty ballad has been at or near the top for months now because it's heard on eight stations, a rare combination that includes the four urban stations tracked by Mediabase 24/7 (Majic 107.5/97.5, Kiss 104.1, V-103 and Hot 107.9) and the four pop stations (B98.5, Star 94, Q100 and Power 96.1).
But "All of Me" has been steadily losing airplay in recent weeks as the song burns out. It was heard 301 times last week, down from more than 450 at its peak.
The runner up song is still on the rise and could potentially take over the top slot at some point: Iggy Azalea's "Fancy." (She's at Music Midtown this September.) She gets support from four stations and totals 268 spins, 33 behind Legend: V-103 (30 spins), Hot (32 spins), Q100 (80 spins) and Power 96.1 (126 spins). I'm not sure how much more upside the song has because it has too much rap for Star or B98.5 to support it and skews too pop for Kiss or Majic.
The next two songs are only getting support from Power and Q100: Ariana Grande's 'Problem," which also features Azalea, and Calvin Harris' "Summer."
Mediabase does not include airplay of translator signals such as hip-hop Streetz 94.5 and the brand new alternative rock station X107.1 so this is not a complete picture of airplay but it covers most of the big signal stations.
