Number of working days until the end of the 2016 session: 35

Wednesday looks to be another fun day for members of the House and Senate budget committees, who will be holding hearings all week on Gov. Nathan Deal’s proposed spending plans. The hearings will start at 8 a.m. and go on all day.

The House and Senate will convene at 10 a.m. Neither chamber has bills up for discussion. Sen. Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. to outline his personal legislative agenda, which includes expanding Medicaid and other items not likely to go over big with the Republican majority.

Also expect a focus on Atlanta-centric legislation as speculation mounts about a possible bid for mayor. Sen. Harold Jones II, D – Augusta, is also holding a press conference at 12 noon to discuss another long shot: SB 254, which seeks to eliminate the charge of felony marijuana possession in Georgia
